CWN - The Council of Christian Church Leaders of Iraq is urging Iraqi Christians to participate in upcoming elections for the nation’s Council of Representatives.

Five of the 325 seats in the Council of Representatives are reserved for Christians. The Iraqi people do not elect their president and prime minister; instead, members of the Council of Representatives elect a president and his council. The members of the Presidency Council then unanimously choose the nation’s prime minister.

"It is important not to despair of the fate of this country,” the Christian leaders said, as they asked God “to inspire us to choose for the good of the whole nation,” according to a Fides report.
