Info Network Embraces Continental Mission

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, SEPT. 26, 2007 (Zenit.org).- A Catholic information network is resolved to promote the "great mission" launched by the 5th General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean, held last May in Brazil.

The Information Network of the Church in Latin America (RIIAL), an organization promoted by the Vatican communications dicastery, concluded its 10th continental conference Friday.

Leticia Soberón, general coordinator of the network, said: "RIIAL will dedicate its efforts to facilitate the Church’s work of communication focusing on communion and mission in a digital culture." In particular, she said, they will work "to find solutions that favor the inclusion of distant and needy communities."

The conference brought together some 100 communications experts -- bishops, priests, religious and laypeople.

The participants were accompanied by Cardinal Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, archbishop of Tegucigalpa, and by Archbishop Claudio Celli, the new president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
