Cardinal Bertone to Visit Cuba

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 5, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Pope's secretary of state, will visit Cuba next year to mark the 10th anniversary of John Paul II's trip to the Caribbean island.

The trip is scheduled to take place Jan. 21-26.

Cardinal Bertone visited Cuba in 2005 when he was the archbishop of Genoa, Italy.

On that occasion he spoke with Cuban President Fidel Castro, who asked him to pass on to Benedict XVI an invitation to visit the island country.
