Archbishop to Meet Patriarch of Moscow

ROME, OCT. 10, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The president of the pontifical council that oversees the Church's charitable activities will meet with Orthodox Patriarch Alexy II in Moscow.

Archbishop Paul Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, will meet with the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church on Oct. 18, the Vatican press office reported today.

Archbishop Cordes will be in Novosibirsk from Oct. 15 to 17. Accompanied by that city's prelate, Bishop Joseph Werth, the Vatican official will visit Caritas, a Franciscan school and the Missionaries of Charity.

"In this vast area, the Catholic Church has seen enormous growth in its charitable activities," the Vatican communiqué explained.

From Oct. 18 to 21, Archbishop Cordes will participate -- as a guest of Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Minsk-Mohilev -- in the meetings of all the Caritas offices of Russia.
