Kyiv — Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), stressed the need for the union of the Christian church, especially during the days of celebrating the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus. glavred.info posted the news on 23 July 2008.
Commenting on the request of journalists for declarations from representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Moscow Patriarchate about participation in the celebratory Liturgy to include canonical churches, Patriarch Lubomyr mentioned that the canonical question is very important. However, the head of the UGCC noted that to a great extent unity is more important, and comes from God.
Patriarch Lubomyr underlined that God’s laws are much more important than peoples’. “We are Christians, therefore as Christians we should solve our affairs in God’s way,” said the head of the UGCC.
He also mentioned that all Christian churches should come together. “If we do not do this, then all of these celebrations mean nothing. They should have one goal—to unite around God’s laws,” added the head of the UGCC.
Patriarch Lubomyr also expressed that the UGCC would like to take part in state actions and in prayers for the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus. “If they want us there, if they will sincerely be praying, we would also like to be there. Praying never hurts,” said the hierarch.
