German Protestants deplore destruction of images

CWN - In a recent dialogue with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, representatives of the Evangelical Church in Germany-- a federation of Lutheran and other Protestant communities-- deplored the destruction of images that took place during the 16th century.

"We find that images in manifold forms have long since become an expression of evangelical piety," said Petra Bosse-Huber, a Protestant bishop who represented the Evangelical Church in Germany in the dialogue. "The Evangelical Church rejects the destruction of images."
