The prelates sent a letter of support to the episcopal conference of that Asian nation, signed by Bishop Thomas Wenski of Orlando, Florida.
The chairman of the bishops' Committee on International Policy also signed a letter the prelates sent to the U.S. ambassador of Myanmar.
They urge a solution “in order that there will be stability, peace and nonviolence.”
The letter to the bishops of Myanmar said that “in union with Pope Benedict XVI we are offering prayers that the current conflict will be resolved peacefully for the welfare of the people of your nation.”
The messages come after pro-democracy demonstrations led by Buddhist monks resulted in a violent government crackdown last week.
The ruling military junta said 10 people were killed, but dissident groups put the death toll at up to 200 and say 6,000 people were detained, the Associated Press reported.
