Another Miracle for Mother Teresa?

NEW DELHI, OCT. 3, 2007 (Zenit.org).- An Indian priest says that the intercession of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta brought about an inexplicable healing of his kidney stone.

According to Father V.M. Thomas from Guwahati, Assam, who knew and worked with Mother Teresa for 10 years, the kidney stone that had caused him intense abdominal pain disappeared because of the beatified nun's intercession, AsiaNews reported.

The priest reported that the stone disappeared in an unexplainable manner after he celebrated Mass and prayed to Mother Teresa on Sept. 5, the 10-year anniversary of her death and the day before he was scheduled for surgery.

"My surgery was scheduled for Sept. 6, as nothing happens by chance," the priest said. "My surgeon gave me permission to leave the hospital to celebrate Mass at Shishu Bhavan, a Missionary of Charity convent. During the Eucharist I asked the faithful to pray for me especially through the intercession of Mother Teresa."

A day later, when the final pre-surgical X-ray was taken, the doctors could not locate the stone.

"My doctors have certified my case a 'miracle,'" Father Thomas said.

Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati agreed that the priest's recovery "is above and beyond scientific and human explanation."

A miracle recognized by the Vatican in 2002 -- the cure of a young Indian woman who suffered from an abdominal tumor -- led to Mother Teresa's beatification.
